I didnt realize Kev that your fahaka is also a female... I just wish mine in a way would stop laying eggs so often... I think shes already laid eggs about 10 times in the last 1.5 years and i think shes abou to lay more again...

If only i had the space to house a male that would be perfect for a breeding project...

In your opinion, how big of a setup would you use to try out breeding? I'd imagine it would have to be HUGE with an insane amount of decor to break up line of sight. It would be absolutely AMAZING if people could start breeding these guys. Ugh I WANT ONE SO BAD!!!!!!! lol........ been looking for so long locally with no luck :(

To even contemplate breeding them i would guess you would need a massive system as you mentioned... Maybe an 800G might work, although with them being so vicious towards each other you would almost need two docile ones for it to work i'd guess

As far as i know the only way to know for sure is if your puffer lays eggs or if you autopsy your fish when it passes away... Although some people have said that the more blotchy fahakas could be female...

About the eggs, my fahaka looks like she might be holding eggs again, so if she is and drops them i'll snap some pics for you...

you think i might work if your fahaka laid eggs and maybe if you had another fahaka the same size or something but never laid eggs and yoiu take the female out and the male in he might put some of his sperm on them ????just curious lol

Sounds like yours may have laid eggs... If its whiteish yellow and there are 1000's then could very well be they are pretty darn small for a fish that size

My female has laid eggs a couple of times too. Very messy business to try and get them out of the tank before they spoil the water. I'm convinced she was spawning with her reflection in bare areas of the tank as I saw the egg laying process one time. I've since put an extra thick layer of sand in & she hasn't laid eggs since.

Re: breeding them, I doubt there would be enough demand for them to be commercially bred, realistically not many people are willing to dedicate a large tank to a solitary fish (even if they are great fish)
