Is a 55 gallon to small to house a breeding pair of kribs and a pair of nicaraguans?

One or the other...but not both. Nics will definitely beat on the kribs.

Nics will eventually outgrow a 55 but should be good for some time.

You can try it-some nics aren't that aggressive to smaller species,but get crazy when threatened.

Agreed, my pair was vicious to everything when I had them in a 55 while spawning and they were only half grown.
