I'm not talking that you got them from a dealer/distributor in the US, but literally having them shipped to you from Africa to the US? I'm wondering what this might entail and what kind of price would be associated with doing this?

I have never done this, but for some reason I feel like I read somewhere that you can't do that. If you want to import fish you have to first have a permit (or some kind of official form) and then you (or someone else) has to accompany the fish - like you have to carry them on with you.

I could be wrong, but thought I read that somewhere. Anyway, I am sure it is quite expensive and wouldn't make a whole lot of sense unless you were running a fish store (or similar business).

Tr6 on here visits africa's rift lakes once or twice a year and hes brought back quite a few africans...they're not captive bred, but wild specimens. Send him a pm

That's right, IIRC he brought fish back from South America not Malawi, I should talk to him about it. Thanks!

Sorry, i have only brought back fish from south america, and that is with permits.

I know people who have brought back fish in their luggage from Lake Victoria, but not really from Tanganyika or Malawi.
From what has been told to me during my visits to Africa that its not easy to get the required permits to do it, and hiding or doing it Illegally will get you jailed or a big fine.
IMO nearly all of the fish i swim with in Africa are available either from the US as TR or WC, so no reason to risk doing it.
In Victoria, you can find fish that just are not available, so i can understand taking the risk, though i don't know if its as big deal getting caught out of that area.
In South America, there are many species that are not yet sold in America, so again thats why i bring back fish from there, because Im often one of the few to have that fish.
