According to a site that visited that listed the different tanks sizes and the weight with and without water said that a 125 is about 1400 pounds with water. This is not including filtration, gravel (sand), ornaments, wood and rocks. I can see how that weight adds up fast.
Lol I had 5 125's, 1 180, and 6 75&55g tanks in an upstairs apartment and it was just fine. Think about how much water beds weigh, appliances... Etc.
They said that weight is being evenly distributed and not in one location.
What, they think a tank is standing on a pencil? It's actually more distributed than a washing machine or refrigerator if the stand is built correctly.
Anyway, a 75 gal. is my favorite footprint tank. The extra 6 inches of depth is well worth it for the 75 over the 55. You can keep a lot more different species in it that won't fit in a 55. The 75 is the standard tank I'd recommend people wanting to keep CA/SA's.

get a biger tank then, ie longer lol,
sounds to me like the person that is giving you that advice is either the person living under you and that proposed ton of water lol,or a dim wit,, ther is lots of ways to overcome the weight prob,
