Need Some ID and Some Tips, Greatly Appreciated

Hey Everybody,

My water chemistry has been stable for awhile now so I've been adding corals here are some pics:



I cant tell what order the pics are in, from this post for some reason.
All I know is that thier is a toadstool, elephant ear, hairy mushrooms, red mushrooms, button polyps and trumpets...the other few are a mystery to me as I forgotten Lol

Also is thier a way to feed the unknown corals?

Toadstool: Gets Food From Light
Trumpets: Seem To Get Sticky To Catch Foods
Elephant Ear: Eats Silver Sides....will stop because realize he is getting big already and eats silvers the size of my chromis!
Red Mushrooms: Gets Food From Light...I think
Hairy Mushrooms: Gets Food From Light..I think
Button Polyps: Eat Foods That Go By Them
Frog Spawn: Sticky Tentacles Catch Food
Duncans: Catch Food

The other corals I have no idea how they eat....except for the colorful lps coral...however hasn't eaten from the syringe since I got it (since saturday)

Also I have these kent marine products should I be dosing?



I have the whole line of Kent dosing products I think, some you can't see all by the gallon.. all full haven't used any.I'm worried about my skimmer pumping out a flood like last time, however since then I was told to raise the cup to the highest possible to solve the problem which is what I did and it seems to skim well however what will the chemicals do to it?...

Firstly I wouldnt recomend that you stop feeding the elephant ear... maybe just less frequently if your concerned about its size, worst case it gets to big and you could always trade it to someone with more space, or frag it buy cutting it in half (through the mouth as well, like fragging a nem), either way be careful, these are basically anenomes in the sence that they will eat your fish given the oportunity. Secondly, every coral eats even the Toadstool. The mushrooms definatly eat, smallish food items work for them infact I remember seeing a video of a mushroom trying to eat a small bristle worm (worm was to big though). Finally I would personally turn the skimmer off for an hour up to two hours after dosing with the assorted food stuffs, this makes sure all the corals get a good portion (in theory) and less gets wasted by skimmer, also with the skimmer off for a longer time, the corals will get a bit of every food item across them (in theory) so even if you target the wrong food stuffs for that coral, the right food could be pumped across them by a powerhead later.

The larger colony of LPS is Acanthastrea lordhowensis (pic 5). Very nice looking colony by the way. They feed like most other LPS, with extending tentacles. They will take small meaty foods like mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, nls pellets, etc. They don't need to be fed too often though. I feed mine about once or twice a week. The LPS on the frag disc looks like it could be a blasto... I'm not sure though, that's just a guess.

Some nice looking pieces you've got there. I know a lot of people don't target feed, but for my LPS I usually do - especially when they are acclimating or are small frag pieces. Larger sized colonies have a better chance at getting food from a broadcast feed, but small frags are much less likely to get food in this manner. I usually turn my powerheads off and target feed my Acans, trumpet, and candycane. My frogs and hammer don't really need to be target fed. They seem to do fine with a good light source and scraps that land on them.

Thanks Kev for the reply, ok i will probably feed him bits of silversides once a week or bi weekly, I noticed it seems to enjoy it's location that it's starting to stick on the neighboring rocks, should I be concern for future difficulties of removing it if becomes aggresive? Thanks for the tip, gotta look through my kent products of i think I have coralvite and something else for corals also newyorksteelo posted a video on youtube of this coral food he uses for sps, maybe youv'e watched it?

For some reason I can;t get the musgrooms to catch pellets or shrimps so guessing I need to use very tiny foods, thanks a million

Also should I turn of the sump to make the water stay in place but have the wave makers on along with skimmer off during feeding?

Lol the acan colony your talking about was in my lfs $15 frag tank great pick up! Will try feeding them around 9:00 tonight because I think the lps eat more at night. I will be target feeding my corals as well for healthiness and healthy growth.

Turning off the sump and leaving the powerheads on would keep the stuff in the display better... but at the same time it will likely get pumped back in anyways so not a big deal, unless you have mechanical filtration of some sort, in which case that would remove some of the food. As for what the mushrooms eat... it really depends on the veriety and I've never really done a "target feed" on them, I usually just mass feed the tank with live foods haha. I'm starting to do some research on culturing marine bacteria (the safe kind) as "nano" foods for some of the pickier filter feeders... so far not much luck though.

As for the elephat ear... yes they can be difficult to remove if they attach to a bunch of things... but it's always do-able... though you may have to replace some live rock haha. I like to place thinks like that on what I like to call "super plugs" which is basically a costom made (by me) very oversized frag plug, so they cant really bond to anything else, but the plug is small enough that its hidden by the head of the coral, I like to do this with alot of the fast growing/encrusting corals, so I can remove from tank/frag more easily.

Im not sure if it was a typo... but you said you'd turn they wavemakers off? You need them on, or the food stuffs will settle onto the bottom lol. As for overly large frag plugs, I think you can buy some online... but you can also make them using standard aragocrete recipies.

Lol actually it wasn't a typo, for some reason I thought I had to turn the wavemakers off, but now that I think about your right keep the on and just keep the skimmer off lol thanks. Btw i fed them and noticed that the fish especially this green wrasse that I have loves the plankton which is great because it seem not to like the nls pelltets too much. The frogspawn, buttons, duncans, elephant ear all ate, elephant ear got a silver side.

Also by any chance is it bad for the toad stool to touch the glass of the tank? Some of the tentacles remain close around the edge because it is touching the glass, should I move it away from the glass or it doesn't matter? Thanks

Na should be fine on the glass, i've even seen softies like zenia grow up onto glass before.
