I was on the floor preparing some wood for a new stand, I thought I'd stand up and stretch out my legs. The moment I started getting up, my Pacu flipped out and went spastic, all I heard was a loud bang noise and out of the corner of my eye I saw Pacu hurling through the air above the tank and into a plastic tub I just happen to have sitting below. He literal knocked the lid open as he went into the air, practically hit the ceiling. He was flopping around in the tub like he was SuperPacu. It was a good thing I had a plastic tub in front of the tank. Think I'll name these guys Cheech and Chong lol

So good to hear he is okay... and thank goodness you were there....and the tub too....

My oscar, when he was younger, decided to jump out of the tank at feeding time. I'm guessing he got impatient waiting for the missus to feed him, needless to say she never took the lid completely off after that

Same thing happened to my eel, except the bucket thing. I was feeding my tank and he just squirmed out. He survived though :)

It won't be the last time your pacu hit the tank lids. Our lids are 19" x 16" not including the overhanging edges, 1/2" acrylic--very heavy. Our pacu managed to knock a lid into the tank. We've found the lid ajar by several inches on a couple of occasions. They always have cuts, scrapes and lost scales from hitting the tank lids. Having had them for 6 1/2 years now, I know that they will not "outgrow" being easily spooked. I think they have vivid imaginations and imagine some huge predator chasing them. My pacu only come to their senses after slamming into a tank wall or lid. The bigger they get, the bigger the crash. It sounds like an explosion when they hit the acrylic. There's been water on the window 6' away, which had to come from the small gap between the lid and the tank opening...once the pacu get moving, there's some serious action going on in our tank. :( Our pacu need a padded cell.

I once had a 13" pike cichlid I was trying catch in my 220 shoot strait up, bounce off the ceiling 3' above the tank, and plop right into the bucket I had waiting for him. Blew my mind.

i had a paroon shark (only 3") do that except the also, i was searching the floor with my GF looking for a plastic gate for my breeder cage and then all of a sudden theres this black thing on the ground in front of our eyes (also did not see it jump fall or even hear it, it was just there magically) and were like "what the heck is that!" then it started flipping around and we both screamed -.- then i realized it was my shark and got him back in looking like a dog full of dog hair i had one hairy tank.

Three items to always have at the ready, 1. towel/s 2. fish net 3. plastic tub With my new build, I'll be adding shower curtain all around the floor of the tan. This will help keep the carpet dry from Pacu water.

Lucky that PACU wasnt a RED BELLY PIRANHA!! Lol thankfully ive only had this happen twice, first a juvey pike charcin (bit the skin between my finger, hurt like hell) then a 12" alligator gar flopped on the floor but i was too drunk to recall how that all went. Maybe put a piece of slate or rock on the lid??!
