I've read somewhere that fish will eat themselves to death. I always thought this to be true up until a few years ago. Today I'll feed my fish up to 4 times a day. I have a 125g with 3 Oscars and a 20 wide that I'm growing out feeder comets in. I'll feed both tanks up to 4 times a day. When I overfeed (happens rarely) the fish just seem to eat there fill and let the rest float at the top. The rest gets eaten over the next hour or 2.

So back to my original question. Will a fish eat itself to death?

no ,,not on 1 sitting any way,,but i reckon if you overfeed a lot your fish would have health probs just like me or u goin to mac every day

You can definitely over feed fish IMHO. Second, please consider breedin something other then comets. Maybe Marmokrebs, Convicts or Paradise Fish. All of these are better live feed then comets as they don't have a thiamineswe B issue. In addition you monitor what you are feedin them so you can increase their nutritional value by feeding quality food.

Just my 2c

I'd never put a fish in a defenseless situation where the end result is it being eaten.

I grow my feeders out to around 4" before adding them to my Oscar tank clean up crew. :naughty: Also I think comets can be beautiful fish when there big. One of the 2 big ones I have is around 7" and looks damn nice! :nilly:

Long term health problems? Never thought of that. I give my comets brine shrimp once a week and koi pellets the rest of the time.

:ROFL:dam ur feeder fish must be bigger than the fish ur feedin

Once the comets hit 4" my 10" Oscar (the biggest one) cant open his mouth wide enough to eat them, and he'll leave them alone.
