I have a few of these available as I thin down a larger group I ordered. I got these fish just under a year ago from Kraig with Kingdom Come Discus Haven in Kentucky. He put together a large group order for these fish from Asia were they were bred by well known discus breeder Tony Tan.

The fish I have are very large, body a good 2-3" without the fins. Making these guys a good 7"+ tall. They eat anything and everything and are kept in tap water. Nothing special, hardy as can be! I bought 18 and to date have not lost a single one.

I have at least 3 available, possibly a couple more. Price is $100 each, no trades pickup only. Anyone who has any experience with WC altums knows what horrible work you are in for.

Were these the fish that there was some serious questions as to whether the parents of these were 100% wild Altums? There were some issues with broken bars and coloration not looking right.

None of the 18 I got displayed any broken bars and based on the info I got they are 100% altums - F1s from WC adults. With that being said, I have never tried or kept WC altums. The coloration (body color) is a little lighter then WC pics I have seen but from talking to other angelfish breeders this is likely from not being raised in darker (tanin rich) water like they are in the wild.

I am trying to corrdinate with a very well known angelfish breeder who lives close by (and who has worked with WC altums in the past) to come see these fish. Like I said I bought 18 of them and am only selling 3-5 of them so obviously these answers intrigue me as well. I can tell you the fish I have look nothing like the "peruvian scalare and peruvian altums" I have seen my LFS get in.

Thanks for the reply. I am in the search for Altums and have spoken with several well versed people. There seem to be some concens about f1 or f2 altums out of asia. It may be a possibility that they are actually F1 Altums that were crossed with either other F1 altums or domesticated lines, hence the bar and coloration issues. From what I understand, Germans have been the only ones to be able to prove that they can breed Wild Altums to produce true F1 stock that still retains 100% of the parents traits.....With there being such a demand for Altums, I can totally see exploitation of the market....There are several threads on various boards with comparison pictures of the Tony Tan Altums and Wild ones and they just don't seem to match up.

I think she truest way is still to get Wild Caught, and have them go through a slow acclimation period, either at the importer or take the time to do it yourself. That way, you are guaranteed to be getting 100% Altums.

When I received my last shipment (ordered from 3 different sources) they came 3 months late, smaller ones too. After acclimation I added them to the tank, everyone seem ok, then they started to not eat and all the altums (only) died by 3-4 a day until all had died. Nothing I could do to stop, I separated, treated with several different meds, in different tanks, nothing.
Then I saw an article to say that sometimes when stressed altums can go on hunger strike and never recover, usually when first introduced to nes tank. So good luck and try not to stress them.
