Hi, in my 160 gallon tank I use a Rena xp4 canister filter. I am starting to think something is wrong with the filter because I just replaced the black carbon and cleaned it a week ago. The water is turning green again.

I did a 75% water change and made the water perfectly clear before cleaning the filter. I added more bio-filtration.

Can someone please diagnose my problem? Is there an impeller problem? HELP! I want my tank looking good again.

I would look into nitrates in your tank. What are you keeping in it and how much are you feeding?

I have a large flowerhorn, a largemouth bass, three bluegill, two silver dollars, senegal bichir, red tail loach.

I do not feed my fish a lot, especially not enough to cloud the tank. I feed them freeze-dried blood worms.

Sounds like algae growth somewhere. I have an xp4 to but on a 90gal with an ac110. Try a uvc sterilyzer, that should work with having to use ZERO chemicals!!

Carbon is pretty much for odor, i know plenty that dont even bother with it.

Are you using a fresh CHEM ZORB insert? Remember to let it soak for a nite before using!

Also make sure u have the black 20 and 30 foam inserts in the first basket. Then chemzorb then media and in LAST BASKET POLISHING PAD! this removes any particle and makes your agua perfecto!!

I love my XP4!!!!

I need to look into this stuff... I have three black pad things in that filter, one thin white one that I rinse out when i clean it, a tray full of bio filter stones and one try full of black carbon

Make sure the thin white pad is on the top tray. The black pads on the bottom. Buy CHEM ZORB ASAP and put on 2nd tray then all bio on third!!

It has to go: mechanical filtration, chemical, bio then polishing pads!! If u mess the order up then its pointless!

Dont focus on carbon man, theres alot more benificial things for the filter. CHEM ZORB!

From top to bottom? What exactly is mechanical filtration? Can you show me pictures of some of this stuff?

Mechanical Filteration is pads (sponges) in the filter.
