my clown loaches died :'(

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry to hear about your losses. I have loach tanks - I usually do 50% every week but I cheated and did a 70% one time because I had been lazy or too busy to make a change. Next couple of days they got ick big time and lost most of them.
Also the temp of the new water like a in a previous comment has to to be damn close to the original. I also always Prime for water changes.

sometimes city water sources will dump extra chemicals into the water and do not warn the population about doing so. we've had it happen around here in multiple cities. they'll drop in excess amounts of chlorine, chloramine, and other stuff. the local fish store had a massive death rate after water changing in one such incident, due to not being aware of the city chem dumping.

i usually double or triple dose my tanks with prime when i do water changes, just to be on the safe side.

it is actually more common than not for cities to do this, and they don't have to notify us because the chemicals used are still within safe levels for humans, which doesn't mean they are for fish. they should at least notify those who operate businesses, or through some venue, such as a website which wouldn't take much effort.

So you were doing weekly 50% water changes and then went a month and did a 70% water change?

Same thing happened around here, and when a lfs lost not only normal stock but a huge tigrinius cat that was selling for almost 2 grand, it made the papers. For a while the companies started notifying us, but it's sporadic. I lost 2 tanks of Tanganyikan cichlids because of the water. It isn't very comforting when you get a notice in the mail announcing some huge chemical addition, but you get it days after they did it!

hey,
i use to do weekly 50%
but then i started to do every other week water changes. varying from 60-70%.
i wrote that i started this about a month ago but actually it was about 1.5 month. so about 3 water changes every other week for 1.5 months.

been getting so lazy with the water changes :(

ahhhhhhhhhh
