New F0 Pearsei

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
How big is each one?

The pearsei is 15 inches and the bocourti is 14 inches, but the bocourti has a mate so he fights aliitle harder than the pearsei(but the pearsei is no slouch he handles himself very well)i just dont want to see either one injured.

Thanks everyone!

I'd be interested in knowing the collection point if you've got it? They should be able to provide you with one.

I'll have to own these guys sometime, but right now I'm working with their sister species, bocourti.

They are a distributor of Don Conkel, which is where this guy came from. Conkel's website says they are from Rio Usumacinta.

Love these fish!! If I was not so restrained on space at the moment I would have a tank with them and Bocourti for sure! What are you feeding the little one?

He hasn't eaten yet. I've tried NLS sinking pellets and Hikari Cichlid Gold floating pellets.

Awesome fish and nice pick up! Is the Pearsei around the 5"-7" range?

Thank you. He's about 6-7".

For those of you who have had Pearsei at this size, what did you have good luck on feeding them with?

I have a 6-7 incher from gage @ Cichlid connection and he eats anything and everything. Acts very much like an Oscar. Always at the front of the tank begging for food and put almost everything away. Huge gut when he's done eating. Once urs settles in you shouldnt have a problem getting him to eat anything

Ok, good to know. He is starting to take little bits of food in and then spit them out, so I think he'll come around soon.

Purchased a Pearsei from Gage at the same size a month ago. The spitting occurred in the beginning. It took a couple weeks before he started to engorge himself with the Hikari Gold and Excel. 3 weeks before it would pursue algae wafers. Yours going to eat like an "oscar" real soon.

Note - these are the only cichlids I have from the species in my signature that will gulp down 15-20+ pellets and store in their mouths. Kinda as if they are planning ahead for breakfast, lunch and dinner during one fitting; "very smart". All 4 of my Pearsei do this and funny to see the food still in their mouths after there is no more left for the others.

How much growth have you seen in one month? I am sitting here in front of the tank watching him. I gave the Black Aro some Cichlid Gold, and little bits of it are on the bare bottom, and the Pearsei is eating all the little bits (no spitting now)...so he is officially eating! It's always a great thing to see a new fish eat for the first time.

I love watching this guy. It gives the tank some personality that it was lacking with an Aro and two cats.

It's hard to say on growth. I've only notice them becoming fuller and growing the wrong way, lol. I haven't had them long. Acquired the first 3 a couple months ago (9",8", 7" & the 7" one from Cichlid Connection). The black undertones really does hide the visuals of how much they ate or eating....

Good luck with yours! They are a way cool specie.

Thank you. And good luck with yours as well!

This guy is quite entertaining and definitely enjoying his new 260 gallon playground.
