I have the ocean clear powered by an FX5. I figured the FX5 would pre-filter the micron filter and the micron filter would filter out all the large parasites/worms. The uv would have less stuff to kill. The Fx5 flow is restricted to about half. I should have gone with the HOB uv in the third link.

There is SO MUCH that goes into the equation of a good solid uv sterilyzer.

The higher the gph w/ a high watt bulb is more for pond and pool applications. But the fx5 w/ media is 300-500gph so i think ur almost perfect, and the fact ur running 99.9% particle free water helps a lot for lite penetration!

I use an all in one which suctions to the inside of the tank. Has huge prefilter plus less then 2cm between the 9watt bulb and the water + the pump runs 220gph which is perfect for my app. Its made by gretch for about 110$, never had a problem and i did months and months of research before buying.

Just make sure it has a quartz sleeve bulb housing and is uvc not just uv. The good thing is the bulbs work 100% till they burn out which is a year. never had parasites with this or dirty water!

Heres the link again with great need to know info:

Quartz glass is more resiliant to water staining and calcium plus its tougher, if it were glass ud end up replacing the tube as often as bulbs (per year) a dirty tube kills efficiency.

Just solid quality

If u meant uvc its cuz it has a shorter band which is very effective for sterilization and produces a different wavelength and each produce small amounts of radiation(harmless to a fish but deadly to a micro organism/parasite). Theres UV-B-C

Hope that helps

Ok, from what I've seen I need to have a good quartz sleeved UVC lamp that has been tested to kill parasites. Issue being only really one or two high end koi pond brands have been tested.

To the more technically inclined I could really use a solid specific recommendation for a UV filter to kill everything at 400 GPH and 200 GPH for QT tanks. I could also go for a good recommendation for a UV filter for a planted tank to remove algae at a flow of 400 GPH.

Some of the Pm's and links I've gotten would indicate there is more to my needs than a simple watts per gallon. I've read it all and yet it still only presents me with one or two options WAY outta my price range. Is there anything around 200 dollars that will serve me well. I was hoping the keep the per unit cost of UV filtration under 200 dollars. As you can see I hope to buy many of these, maybe up to 6 for QT tanks and 2 for planted tanks so if they are over 300 or 400 each I simply can't manage. I'm going to start by purchasing and testing single units for each niche I plan to fill them moving from there.

It not watts/gallons because a 5watt uv is 2" longer then a 8watt giving the 5 watt more time exposure thus better effeciency!

Pond sterilyzation is different then aquarium!
Pond uv have higher gph to kill algae not necessarly parasites! Aquarium less gph long exposure for parasites and algae

I paid 110$ for one of the best products and its good up too 125 gallons+ ive used mine from 55-75-90 with ALL kinds of fish from many different sources! In 2+ years ive never had a problem but i also keep my water pristine!

That link i gave has great pond applications but my gretch 9w 220gph is ***cing awesome
