What brand of UV filters would you recommend

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hello all. Ive used a SunSun brand UV along with 2 FX5s on my 240-250 gallon. I get pretty good results with it. It is also a lot less expensive than the other models. Look for it on eBay if not available by anyone on here.

So far to kill parasites this is the only thing that has been recommended.

I think you are saying the 25 watt unit would treat a 75 or 90 gallon tank at 300-400 gph but I'm not really sure.

No. I said the 25W of a certain model that I analylzed is good for a 200g tank at 500gph for treating parasite. The above analysis is not good for any other models due to chamber size. For 300-400 gph through this 25W, the computer program has to be re-run for dose.
There are too many variables in a UV so manufacturers can only give generic data. To me this is a shot in the dark. Using charts from one brand to select from another brand is the biggest mistake. Not all UV are the same.

Ok so I'm basically not going to get a good UV or know if its working properly? :(

This has a similar construction and is far less on price that the Wave UV Its supposed to be a good koi UV filter. Its 16 inches longer than the WAVE UV 40 watt:

You're changing gears. Now you're talking about a 40W unit. Of course a 40w would be longer than a 25W but to say one 40W unit is 16" longer than another 40W unit is hard to believe because these T5 bulbs are all within 1" in length. I've installed many of both brands, believe me they are almost identical in length. You need to compare list price vs list price. If you noticed, both are have almost the same list price. You just happen to find one on sale. Glad you're doing your homework.

The overall length on the 40 watt I linked is 36 inches the OA length for the wave 40 watt UV is 20 inches. I assumed the bulb would stretch the length of the enclosure. I honestly don't care about wattage. If you think that I could get away with a 25 watt fixture for what I want then I'll get that.

I'm hoping to setup Comprehensive QT for my super system in my basement. I want to make UV part of that, as such it will have to kill parasites. I don't think that anything but a pond UV will get the exposure necessary to kill parasites.

40w UVs are all about 36" long.

said 20" on the manufacturer web site.

I thought they were short, maybe a typo or something.
