TacoSalad, if you like the look of eels, don't bother with the freshwater stuff, just make it a FOWL saltwater tank and get one of the smaller eels (golden dwarf moray for example). If you're staying with FW, what sort of cleaning did you do? take apart the whole tank?

I want a saltwater tank more than anything it's just I look at everything you need power heads, protein skimmers special lighting, the cost is more than I have right now so I'm sticking with FW

I'm just afraid I won't cure the live rock long enough or the nitrates and nitrites will get away from me and kill all my fish

don't be intimidated...a basic FO or FOWLR is not that much different than a FW tank. Only main difference is the live rock and the skimmer. If you go FO, the lighting isn't an issue

Ok... So if I do a FOWLR how do I cure the live rock? I know I can't just plop it in there. What is a inexpensive/effective protein skimmer? Also do I new a filtration system? I was told I need one to purify my tap water to use with the salt( the town water here is bad and I mean baaaaadd... It's got high levels of arsenic and lots of other stuff)

Hey I just bought 4 silver scats not knowing they were brackish and I have them in freshwater right now and there about 2 inches each but I don't know how long I can keep them in there. I know that some people have had some success with keeping them quite awhile but i don't know how long that is, can anyone help?

Don't make them stay in fresh water a second longer than they have to. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do something, ya know? Besides, brackish is fairly easy. If they were my fish, I'd start switching them now, just to keep them safe and healthy.
