The Black Hole
I was wondering if you can answer a question that i recently encountered with FW rays.

Last night I did a water change and after i was done i noticed one of my female rays started to put out some sort of paste looking film coming out of her private area. When she was all done, my Tank was Cloudy looking like it was going through a cycle & had a STRONG scent of FISH. LOL.. ANY THOUGHTS?

I think she just did a big dump, have you been feeding a lot of worms? It may be that you need more filtration to clear it quicker. How big is the ray and how big is the tank.

I have 300 gals including 100 gal sump and if my 12" plus make takes a big dump it can sometimes cloud for a few mins. This is why you need volume with rays. Often people on here ask if they can keep a12" ray in 100 to 180 gal tank and cannot understand why we say know when the fish physically fits.

Thanks for the response JT- My ray is is pushing an easy 16-18inch disc, the paste was not looking like crap. When she started to swim in my tank it looked like she had streamers, LOL. My setup consists of a total of 1000Gallons w/ a 200g sump and Ultima ii 4000. So filtration is not the issue.

Since i just got done with a water change, Do u think the cloudiness will go away? Or do i have to do another water change? Is it safe to do so?

I agree with Toby, " a big dump" lol mine always do it....kinda spoils the water change...lol

This is Exactly what happened after my water change yesturday. Water went cloudy and the Rays went Crazy:nilly:
I guess having a "Big Dump" induces them to act so strangely. :naughty:

I did another water change today and my water is still tainted.:grinno:

video not working

a water change on a 1000 gal must take all day
