So I was making the rounds at one of my favorite LFS in my area and I came across an unlabeled tank that looked like it had just been stocked. Inside, these little guys were swimming around and from the best of my knowledge, learned here on MFK, they were clearly Urophthalmus. I made my way to the front and asked an employee what they were and he quickly replied: "Red Terrors, I haven't seen these guys in years." Confused, I went back to take another look and when I made my way back to him, I asked him if he was sure they were Festae and not Urophthalmus. And he said positive. I actually really like this LFS but I am pretty sure they're Urophthalmus and it really this situation really disappoints me. Any time you guys were disappointed by your fav LFS?

I wouldnt say disappointed, but i think its only natural for even the best of LFS' to get it wrong from time to time...

if they came in as "Red terrors" there was no intent to deceive, and I wouldn't think less of a fish store because they can't tell uro's from festae. Most stores these days specialize in saltwater anyway, and even those than carry decent FW stuff just label whatever their wholesaler calls it.

Yes and No.

I recent found some Cryptoheros Nanos, sold as Convicts for $1.99, hehe.

But yeah, I was in a LFS in Sacramento and 2 fishes were labeled TRUE Red Terrors (really Mayans). I didnt want to say anything because it clearly would be an argument.

Another fish store owner was saying that his Loisellei were Salvini, lol, Im used to them being labeled as Freddys but he claims them as Salvinis, WOW

I just don't like the fact that without sites like MFK these are the places I'd be getting most of my information from. It's not hard for me to look it up online, if it was MY business I would do more research than take the sticker from shipping and stick it on my tank. I run a small business and I take more accountability than that.
