And in what way was that bad advice, I can back it up with science, what do you have... feelings?

Are you kidding me,you don't think telling people they can have a sterlet in 125gallons is bad advice? Aw come on, I have a 3500 gallon outdoor pond and people on german forums are telling me it is WAY too small for a sterlet lifetime, that's why I'm gonna uprgrade soon. And you think a Sterlet could be kept in 120g?! Sorry, but my ***

Ben let it go ,there always will be peopel that think they are a expert in keeping animals in real small upsets and dont thinking that this animal cruelty is but animal lovers really know that you cannot keep them like this minimum size is 10.000 liter for all sturgeon sp

This is also a reason why i not answer some peopel that want to keep paddelfish or other sturgeons becose their setup is only 400 gallons or les , i will not help peopel to give the animals a bad live in a to small setup

I dont help to commit animal cruelty
Jeroen

And this is my opinion

Also my opinion. If anyone here thinks sturgeon can be kept lifetime in 125(!!!!!!!!!) gallons, thats their problem and sadly the fishes problem, but I'm not gonna say they aren't able to do it,because you could put a 1m rtc in a 60 gal too theoretically, but I just hope these people are aware they are supporting animal cruelty.

I think blanket statements like sturgeons should "never" be kept in 125 gal aquaria, or "only" 10,000 l+ ponds are suitable are not helpful or accurate and are an over simplification of the housing question.

For example, i think it is more appropriate to temporarily house a newly acquired, 4"-5" fingerling in a 125 gallon tank rather than a large pond so that it can be observed more closely, make sure it's eating well, as quarantine, etc.

Placing a small fish in a large pond with other large fish would be inappropriate and arguably "inhumane" and is at the least a good way to lose a fish, or even a whole pond full of fish.

Certainly there would be a time when a sturgeon will outgrow a 125 and require larger housing. I think readers of this thread are better served by factual information so that they can make informed decisions before attempting to keep sturgeons. Emotionally charged blanket statements are not helpful, IMO.

My sterlets and diamonds have grown from approximately 5" to 8" in about 3 months, or about an inch a month.

You are absolutely right about blanket statements and such, but on my post I mentioned keeping sturgeon in a 125 LIFE TIME was cruelty , and not keeping sturgeon in a tank like that for a limited amount of time, for example to grow them out like you mentioned :)

Your both right but almost evry boddy here want to keep them in 125 galons until 400 gallons and noboddy is talking about when they get to big for that setup and how to keep them when they are to big for 125 or 400 gallons

Your sturgeons are grow 1 inch a month than is my cuestion what will you do in about 18 months becose they will be than 26''
and i hope for you that they wil grow this slow but my experience tels me they will be 40" ore more

What growth rates have others seen in their sturgeons?

I'm curious to know how fast different species grow. While diamonds get considerably larger than sterlets, mine have so far grown at about the same rate. I assume there is a point where growth slows and levels out. i know there are lots of variables such as species, stocking rates, foods and feeding rates, water quality etc, but for those who have kept sturgeons for awhile, what growth rates have you seen?

Mine will go from their current 250 gal. into my 1,000 gal and then into a 4,000 gallon pond. The diamonds will eventually go into a 1 acre pond.

After 5 years they wil grow slow but the real fast grow years are 2 years until 4 years
For muscles development and bonestructure they need a lot of room at minimum 3x their boddy

That your thinking for the future is verry good that meens your a real hobbist of sturgeon
