Go buy this instead for half the price:

BTW, I have used 260 and 220 watt power compact fixtures I'm selling cheap if you want them instead.
That's not really half the price. I can get the 36"-48" Double Bright Marineland for $112 shipped on Amazon.com and the kicker is I have Amazon gift certificates. If I can find a screaming deal used I would go that route but if I'm going to buy new I'm buying from Amazon.com so I can use my GC's and save my money. I've seen used ones sell for $65-80 so I was hoping to save some money. I have the single bright version I got from a local Petsmart yesterday but it's just not bright enough. I know now I want the Double Bright version because it also uses a better & longer lasting LED for lighting. I considered the 36"-48" version versus the 48"-60" version and I think I've decided I just don't need the larger one as the price difference ($190 shipped) is quite a bit more and I'm not sure I need that much more light output. I even considered building my own but by the time you source parts it ends up costing even more for about the same lighting give or take. I also saw the Hong Kong made knock-offs but they're really not that much less expensive. I appreciate the suggestion but I've already looked into it quite a bit and have narrowed down what it is that I want. Just trying to find the best deal now.
The one I posted for you is equivalent to the one made by marineland which retails for $339.39 at thatpetplace.com
Here's the one equivalent to the one you want for $68.90:

BTW, I use this on my 72x30x24 and it's fine...the one for $149 would be better of course.
Trying to make your own will look like crap compared to a ready made fixture.
Define better. Better for what/who? Better for someone with live plants or a reef tank doesn't mean it's better for me.
Well, looks isn't as big of a deal because I have a canopy that will cover it so I will be the only one who ever sees it. I'm pretty handy and make my own stuff regularly but I'm not sure I feel like dealing with this right now. Not to mention the parts seem awfully expensive compared to the finished product so the savings really isn't there. I also don't need anything fancy like that first one you posted because I don't have any live plants and would rather not promote algae growth. The one you posted for $70 isn't bad but it would be cheaper for me to just use my GC balance to order the one from Amazon since I have enough to cover the entire thing whereas I would have to come out of pocket for the $70 plus shipping for the other one.
Brighter looks better in my opinion...is that clear enough for you?
I don't care how handy you are...good luck making a light yourself as waterproof and functional as a ready made unit...if you can, put me in for an order!
If you're already dead set on buying something on amazon, why waste the time posting this stuff?
Bigger question: why am I wasting my time?
I'm done...good luck with your project and post up some pics in the setup and filtration forum so we can see how it goes.
