Breeding Cubans w/ fh?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
True. Well there are still so many bridges to cross before then. I've never tried to breed the male, don't know if he's fertile.

Love the mako on your avatar by the way. I'm a die-hard fisherman myself...both freshwater and salt.

Thanks. I love that pic too! Lol.
That was actually an enormous thresher shark. I caught the photo op, not the fish:D

Oh...a threasher. That's what it was, keep thinking why its mouth seems so small and its nose so short for a mako. Still nice...

Leo beer from thailand sells cubans which he calls "black fh". according to him you breed female cubans to make fh to get double line flowerhorn... probably with rd males. I am not sure though this is where most double lines come from. Most i have seen have had traits from the variant of hericthys bocourti that has a double flower row. (not the yellow ones with stripes in other words). There is an excellent pic of one of these in axelrod's atlas, it looks almost like a fh with a different shaped head. these are more difficult to find than cubans though

The double row came from Lyonsi. Many including I use to think it came from cubans - that is false.

Do you know this as fact or just your theory? I've never heard that before.

Lyonsi do have top marking. The picture will do all the talking...and tell me if you can see cuban in these guys(and hell no vieja does not throw flowerlines like these - go look at any vieja base kamfa). With inbreeding, selecting breeding, and etc. It can be achieved. Trimac will never give you such strong flower marking from eye to tail, it's the Lyonsi that did the perfect job on those marking. And no way can you achieve such coloration from a Trimac through line breeding without the Lyonsi(last picture). These fish are from the 90's. And as any breeding goes, you can never breed a genetic out. You may reduce such genetic, but it will throw out someway and somehow regardless what you do.

Here's a cuban mix...with the mother being the flowerhorn. Not sure if its either F1 or an F6 fish. For all we know the frys produced from cuban mix isn't good. Which is why they aren't being mass produced anymore. And photo's leakages. While they're real breeder female are still unknown to most if not all hobbyist/breeders. Just like the use of salvini back in Vietnam around 2002-2004 era. May come to a point where the product is at its best - reproduce and frys becomes totally something unlikable.
