what type of puffer is this?

OMG. My LFS is keeping them in freshwater tank and selling them as freshwater fish. Well, they have some monos also and selling them as freshwater fish as well.
Well most freshwater fish are born in freshwater and moved up to higher ph levels as they get older. The salt helps them become more prone to disease once they get older. For example scats can be in freshwater when there younger they need higher ph levels later on, I had scats in freshwater once when they were young, but didn't work out so well top when they get bigger.

They do alright in freshwater when they're small but should be converted to brackish and eventually you can even switch to full marine. I have a 2 inch one in a saltwater tank. They don't do very well with other fish.
X2... they never tend to last long in Freshwater... a lot of the stores over here sell them and keep them in Freshwater, and when you look in the tanks 99% of them are really dark bellied and VERY un-happy with always a few dead ones laying around, or on the verge of dying...
I had purchased one with full intent on switching it to brackish as it got older. Worst decision ever when they said semi aggressive they should have said full out killing machine.....also took bites at cords and airlines. Definatly not a community fish. Just my experience may have been the individual.
Yeah within the puffer community GSP's are notorious as being not good for community or coral tanks...
Although in all fairness... Most puffers should come with that warning
