For the past two weeks, I have a lot, about 10-12 fish die for no apparent reason. Nothing has changed in my routine. Water tests all come back normal, I even tested the tap water and it was normal as well. Today I had 5 fish dead, usually its only about one a day. Its seems to be all the small fish at the moment.
I have been catching some of my high dollar fish and putting the in the 265, so far nothing has died in the 265.
None of the fish have any visible signs of fungus, etc. or marks from other fish besides when they have been dead for a while. Tney all swim around, none are just laying on the bottom or hanging out at the top.
I went fishing today for 3 hours, I looked at the fish before I left and all were fine, I came back and my 13" Bala was dead, just like that.
When feeding the fish, I make sure they all eat from the top feeders to the middle to the bottom. The eat pellets, shrimp and algea waffers.
I was also thinking the were stressed but they arent doing anything that any other cichlid does which is chase other fish. There are so many in there they dont just keep messing with the same fish. And the ones that were doing this have been removed and that was about 3 weeks ago which they are now in the 265 and work out well.
Only thing I can think of is an internal parasite. So I just ordered Aquascape - EcoRx -Anti-Bacteria Medicated Fish Food - 12 oz, had it expedited.
You think it would be good to do a 100% water change and start all over or use this medicated fish food first? I was about to start over tomorrow after work, I have lost a lot of money the past few weeks. I didnt add any fish from this weekend either, they all went to the 265 and 125. I was also going to dip them while I changed the water out.
Thoughts?
