Is a 3" spotted climbing perch and an 8" ropefish suitable for a 20 gallon tank, or is that overcrwoding, wanted to make sure before i put the two together.

would 55 gallon be good for both of them?

You need width a 40 gallon or even better a 75 gallon because of the 18" depth.
