Tips on safe netting and transport

Hi guys,

Moving my 10x 4-5" red bellies to a bigger tank. Any tips on safe netting, handling, etc?

For example today I removed the Florida gars from my big tank today for the rb's to go in, and I used a bucket to control head and net to hold tail, safely got them into a tote and sold to LFS. Any workable tips like that for RBPs?

Have never handled RBPs before, but i think best way is to make sure your fingers or any part of your body stay well clear of those razers! Use a thicker net

Got them all moved today. They seem to bite as a defense when in the net. Could hear it.

All went well, net still in one piece but shredding a bit. ;)

I moved my 6 5-6" rbp a couple months ago into a tank in the same house.

Get a 5 gal bucket and a big net, take all decor out and drain 60%. Corner the fish and net, keeping preasure against the glass so hes trapped, carefully bring to water line and lift up, put fish and net in the bucket 1/3 full and keep him trapped in the net while u walk to the new tank then lift net in new tank and bam, repeat 9 more times.

I didnt have one mishap using this method, make sure bucket has tank water + stress coat. Just be careful when lifting fish out of tank, i used a piece of wood to cover top of net while i put him in bucket so he couldnt flop out and when in bucket just make sure to keep him trapped against bucket wall then speed walk him to tank. They may play dead when u put him in new tank but its a good easy and low stress way.

Yeah I am amused by their pouting! I'm amazed to have RBPs begging for food and doing stuff like that. For me, my Piranha are just as personable as Oscars. :)

Yea i love mine. They are so active 24/7 and eat hearty, i just dont like how they pick on eachother but i guess its more of a form of playing.
