you understanding is at the fifth grade level!
he is talking about people in general, not in any specific country!
Well my understanding is this thread is about asian Aros in the USA. So if he is referring to people in general my bad.

When u buy this fish it's not about money u spent it's the luck u will have once it's yours.
......
thats rubbish
Hahahaha.
what you think people in the US dont got money? only Canadians and Brits can afford to buy 2k fish? Gimme a break

Focus on what he said, and, I rather agree with him,I doubt there is the amount of fish keepers in the U.S. who are willing to pay the money that some of these high grade aros cost that is anywhere near the amount of willing and paying keepers in some Asian countries....I for one would not be in that group. As much as I'd like to have one,I can say that I would stick with a red tail gold or even a green.I guess it goes with what I've heard before that aquarists in other countries are willing to pay big bucks which is why a large number of high end and rare fish reach those places before the U.S.

Not saying you don't have money but look around the forum and all you see is what's a fair price for this or that fish

I even see people saying don't buy a black aro at $150 as its to much
If they wanted a certain fish then the price shouldn't matter even if the fish is $50 over priced

You may get a few people buying a green at $200 or a rtg at $400 but the fish you all drool over cost a lot more and I just can't see if the ban was lifted that everyone in the US will go out and spend $2k on a fish
Even for someone who's rich $2k is a lot of money for a fish or every ray keeper would have tanks full of the highest grade BD

Asian aros have been in the UK for years and hardly anyone is willing to pay $2k on a aro with the exception with people from Asia

Most people start with green and stop there others see green is near as aggressive as a jar and sell thinking all Asian aros have the same temperament

The you get people who enter with a rtg nearly all of them up grade to a super red or xback then they are hooked

I could probably tell you every person in the UK who would be interested in buying my aro if I was to sell

You get a high rise in sales when it's Chinese new year

Hardly anyone imports Asian aros into the uk now as there is no markets for them

LFS have never shocked Asia aros as buy the time they add the mark up they are super expensive and start in the shop for months as you don't get a man buying a guppy suddenly think I want to spend $2k on a aro

+1. Even here in Canada majority of us Aro keepers don't have the highest grade Aros. The market for Asian Aros isn't how it use to be. I see a lot of ppl in Canada with just greens and RTG. Maybe a few with xbacks and Reds. A lot of us just don't justify spending a few thousand on a fish that could all of a sudden die. The market with stingrays is higher imo cuz you can breed them and make your money back and profit. Aros less chance or no chance on breeding them.

You will also find the reason sales are so low is
The big players just buy one fish
With rays you can keep more than one without the risk of damaging your investment
Not many people are going to spend $15k on a high grade aro comm
It's not a case of buying one high grade then making up the numbers with green or banjar reds as they are to aggressive that's why you don't see many green comms

My 2 cents...

The price will eventually go down for sure when the black market is being removed. When the mass don't have legal issue for acquiring the fish, they will have a higher consideration for owning one. Especially Asian Americans, like myself and a couple of my friends, are willing to pay for them (well, not the super high quality ones mentioned in T1's posts to start off though) if the ban was lifted. I (and my kids too) rather have one asian aro in my 180g tank than the current three IT datnoids and others fish. And I'm not the only Asian American with this mentality, BTW.

A higher demand yields a higher supply, which drives pricing down. Furthermore, hobbyists can freely resell/trade among themselves down the road which will only help with the pricing. Most comments I see so far underestimate the US market in its effect in giving a boost to the demand for the asian arowana's.

how do you work that out the asian aro has been allowed in the UK and canada for years yet the good fish still get good money

if they do come to the US like you guys want the price will go up if they will be as much demand as you think as the surpplys will be low

Like diamonds, there are top-notch ones with perfect clarity and colorless level, while there are those lower. Anything with a higher quality always pertains a higher value, don't you think?

On the demand, it's pretty much in the hands of the farmers I guess. If they want to control the price, there's not much that can be done to change that.

Anyway, the OP's poll is about hobbyists paying a permit fee for obtaining the fish. Although it's pointless not knowing the fee, I voted yes. The US Fish & Wildlife will never lift this ban unless there's an incentive for them to do so.

Hung, there's no need for a tone like this...

You jumped all over the place with your different points in one post... But I'm quoting ONE in red above. There are always asian aro's available in the US black market (not counting many already made it home) currently and this is not going to stop anytime soon. That is telling you enough about the UK and US markets for these fish, don't you think?
