Freshwater Stonefish AKA Freshwater Lionfish

Well there's obviously a lot of debate on this.

I've heard that Oscars do well with a little salt in their aquarium, is this true or was that a bit of misinformation?

Bad idea. Oscars are SA fish, so they require soft, low density, low pH water. API aquarium salt, however, can be used. This will not take the place of sea salt though and will not allow brackish species to live with the oscar.

Best thing to do is only put fish together that are from the same place, or have similar needs

That's what they must have meant by salt, thanks!

I think you should just forget about the stonefish all together.
Especially considering the fact that you can't make up your mind on what to add to this tank. You've gone from JD's to fire eels to stonefish and oscars in a very short period of time, and each idea is getting shot down. This is something you need to think out before you make any choices, and a stonefish in your case would be the wrong choice

The Jack Dempsey's were going to go into the 55 gallon that I was planning on getting, until I found a 100 gallon for a better deal. I was *considering* the Fire Eel. The Oscar idea was never shot down. It's not that I "can't make up my mind", it's that I'm doing *research* to try to find a stocking idea that would work.

There's many people who keep these fish in full freshwater and they grow large, and live long healthy lives. There's different opinions on the subject but there's obviously a lot of people that keep these fish in full freshwater with zero problems.

Your second link is supporting everything I'm saying.

Now all you're doing is being stubborn. If you really want to keep this species of toadfish, set up a brackish tank. It's no harder than freshwater, and doesn't cost much more either. A SG of 1.008-1.014 is all you'd need to keep this fish properly. If not then you're just being cruel

And it's also supporting everything I'M saying, including how I said that there's different opinions on this but there's no doubt that they do fine in freshwater. It's not "cruel".
I'm not being stubborn, I'm looking at this from both sides and taking in everyone's opinions, and what I've seen is that they do just fine in brackish AND fresh water.
Now I didn't make this thread to debate fresh vs brackish for these fish - because, like I said, there's obviously different opinions on this. If you want to have this debate then please, make your own thread about it. But that's not the point of this thread.
