I've been a member of three internet fish forums, MFK and two other cichlid forums. Still post here and on one other site. Got banned from the third site after over 2,200+ posts. LOL! The site owner even threw the fish club I belong to off of the Club Section on his site. Won't mention any names. Don't think it is right to flame other sites. Best thing to do if you don't like a site, the people on it, or the advice you get is to move on and find a different one. There are a few good sites out there with people willing to share their fishkeeping knowledge.
As far as newbies with questions being treated harshly, it happens on lots of sites. Many of the responders forget that they were once newbies. I was one myself a long time ago. I made lots of mistakes. Killed many a fish, bought fish that were too large for the tanks I had, bought fish that were incompatible, bought fish on impulse without knowing their needs, had overcrowded tanks, used every medication under the sun because fish were sick or dying, etc. We all make mistakes. Hopefully we learn from them. There was no internet back then. Learned by reading books, magazines, talking to fish store owners, and joining a local fish club. Today the hobby is a lot easier with information at your fingertips.
Don't be afraid to ask questions. Learn to ignore the harsh responses. Hopefully someone will provide the answer you are looking for. Lots of good people on this site.
