Rid-Ick might be too knarly

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I Am currently offering from one of the worst ick infections I have ever seen! I have like 8 fish with ick and I use some ick tablets but my heater is currently broken but my tank is still around like 72 degrees or like 68 not sure. But I need to pick up some salt for the tank and I saw some people use solar salt from home depot and it's way cheaper than aquarium salt and is the same thing. So I am getting some and I have a filter on the way in the mail so I'll be waiting

If your tank is at 68, no wonder you have ick. Pick up a heater asap. Also, you say you have a filter in the mail. Does that mean you don't have a filter now?
You need to warm these guys up right away. You can get a decent size container of salt for around 5 bucks.
What size is your tank? Heaters can be expensive, but I've seen cheapies at my lfs for around 15 bucks for a 150w.
Your fishies are depending on you to take care of them. I hope they get well soon!

Yes I really hope they get better they have no filter cartridge in the filter only the sponge think that catches all the bad stuff and the ick stuff said no activated carbon so I had to remove all of it that's why I took out all the filter stuff

Okay so my buenos aires had ick and now only two out of six of them have ick idk what happened and I am trying to kill the ick parasites before it attaches to any more fish omg I hate ick so much I need to get rid of it. Okay so my heater should be coming in by I believe monday I don't remember but I think Monday or Tuesday and the ick parasites have gotten off my fish and are now in my tank somewhere and I need to get rid of them as they will re attach so how long exactly is the ick going to be off the fish for because I drop in an ick tablet every day and it isn't seeming to work so should I just turn the heat on high and drop in 1 teaspoon of salt for every 5 gallons and hope for the best or is there a better way because I need to treat this it's my first time having ick

I always bleach my hospital tanks after I'm done with them with a 15:1 water/bleach solution. My blue silicone is restored after a 6 to 12 hour soak.

Its kinda starting to look good. Maybe Im just getting used to it. I do however see the benefit of those rimless TruVu tanks

I never even considered bleach - I guess that could work as long as you dechlor. it really well afterwards.

Ick can be stubborn and stressful for fish and owner. I generally just raise the temp and treat. I never use salt IMO that just stresses the fish more. 25% water change everyday continue treatment till no signs of Ick anywhere. If your fish can survive it can take couple weeks to get rid of all the Ick. Last time I had Ick it was in one of my Nano planted tanks. I couldn't treat cause it would just kill my plants. So I just let the Ick run its cycle. I lost all my Cardinals 7 but only lost 1 out of 8 Neons lost 6 of 9 Pygmy Sunfish before the Ick just went away on its own.

i havent had a problem with ich for the past, what....7 years now. when i first encountered it i used the rid-ich in a bottle solution and it was it worked RID-ICH--ulously! other than the fact it turned the silicone lining of my old tank blue, it seemed to work just fine. although, i never had to use it again. to be honest, i dont think you will ever have a problem with ich as along as you keep up with water changes and keep the temperature of the tank water at atleast 78...depending on the type of fish you are housing this might be a problem, but i once read that ich spores only thrive in COLD water conditions... so my theory for the past 7-8 years has been to keep the water clean and warm which will result in a healthy ecosystem that your fish will thrive in...for me, so far so good! good luck!
