dont you have to lose the tiger barbs too? aren't they from india/south asia or something? really nice by the way. best 40 i've ever seen

Looks good! You could skip the plants IMO, I like the hardscape.

Thanks Clock. I really love Hardscaping but i want to see how some Vals would look on the right side of the tank with the waterflow.

Looks very nice, i really need to figure out how/where to get rocks like that

Cheers Hr. Black River stone from my local ADA store.

Thanky. Yes they are from Southeast Asia and they are providing to be some great Dither Fish. I am debating on placing them somewhere as soon as i get the C. Sajica. Probably get some Swordtails to keep the Biotopish theme. :)

If you want to improve the biotope and would like any ideas I would suggest replacing the asian Tiger Barbs with a CA/SA tetra of some sort. there are tonnes to choose from, I have a group of columbians that are bright blue and red and always active.

also would like to agree that it is the best 40gal Ive seen also

Central American "tetras" are very hard to come across right now in the hobby. If you want a more accurate "Central American" biotope, I would do livebearers like swordtails, platys, or mollies, and preferably wild type (many available on Aquabid).
The term biotope is used pretty loosely, can be something as simple as a "SE Asia river" biotope but there are many rivers in SE Asia... Can be as specific as my 225 Lago de Izabal (Guatemala) tank with species from only one lake.
Really just depends on what you like and how far you want to take it!

OP, have you seen Lee Nuttall's new scapes with plants?

I agree livebearers would fit the bill much better than Tiger Barbs with what your trying to achieve. I've kept Mollies in my CA tanks as dither for years and love them. They're great algea eaters too. I think some Vals planted along the back corner would give the tank a nice riverine look, so give it a shot. Nice tank good luck with it.

Thanks for the suggestion and the praise. Agreed on the point of improving it and will look into CA/SA Tetras as well as Swordtails and Mollies. I don't know if i'm going for a specific "lake/river/stream" biotope but i might on my bigger tank so we'll see.
+1 this is gorgeous

Very much feel the same way. I've also been checking Aquabid and other sites as well as LFS's and have been researching Swordtails, Molly's, and Platy's and will change the Tigers for those listed.
I have been a fan of Nutty's for a while and always am in awe of his tanks. That planted tank is turning out to be a beut.

x2, I prefer the hardscape as well. Looks great. That is some crazy wood!

Thanks JK. Love hardscapes as well just trying something a little different for meself just to see how it turns out. Yeah the wood is actually four pieces and had a ***** of a time arranging it so it wouldn't scratch the tank lol. BTW i have been checking out your builds and wow.

Thanks for the suggestions. I placed some long grass type plants (forgot the name) on the left side to get that "riverine look and so far you are right. Going to rescape a little to balance it out then will replace the the tiger barbs as soon as i finish the research.
