In a 1k gal tank
Hi, I new here and obviously a noobie and would like to get some feedback...I would like it if the feedback are in a positive way and nothing negative...

The subject is what the title says....I have 2 red tail catfish and thinks that the small one is not growing because of the bigger red tail catfish...They are both in a 110 tank...I had them for 3 months, when they are both 3-4" and now the big on is 13" and the other guy is 7-8"...But i notice that the little guy isnt growing as much...could it be that because of the intimation of the bigger one that has slow its growing???

*Note: the little guy got burn a few times too from the 500watt heater...is it a possibility that this is what cause the fish to not grow as much???

I feed them 2-3 times a day....
Do water change 2-3 times a week...
Water temperature is at 84-87 degrees...
Havent check my water parameter yet but i have 4 water lily plants in there so i THINK the water parameter is ok....(not sure)

1st you need a much larger tank . The injury could have slowed his growth if you said one is over a foot you should put them in somthing bigger now.

Im feeding them both raw shrimp, hikari sinking pellets, and fillet talapia...there are no other fish with them...

Is the smaller cat getting equa ammounts of food, the bigger one may bully him.

yes they are both getting the same amount of food...

ok If I where you I would go out of my way with feeding prongs to feed the smaller one.
I stopped bothering with shrimp pelets after about 6 inches its a waste of time. atleast to me.

Does make a lot of sense to me, if they are both getting the same amount of feed. I would not be suprised if before too long the bigger one eats the other. Try feeding the small one twice the feed as the other and cut back the food for the big one, but be sure to feed enough to keep healthy and not looking at each other as food. Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Maybe it's me but 84-87F seems pretty warm. That's is water temps to fight ick. I hold my tank at 80 and that's warm. Also how much water are you changing 2-3 time a wk? If your doing huge water changes that can be seriously affecting your water parameters. See bacteria is what breaks down ammonia to nitrites to nitrates. Take to much water out or clean your filter squeaky clean and destroy the colony of bacteria it equals dead fish. Happened to my grandparents :(.

Growth spurts. In the first year my old two RTC's went through two growth spurts. Luckily for me, they both had them at the same time. If both are eating the same amount, then I would continue to do the same and not change nothing. As for the heart....really, five times? Cover it up.
