I am building a pond in my basement. It is going to house probably anywhere from 5-10 stingrays.... 1 fire eel and I am looking into turtles as tankmates for them. I am planning on building a basking shelf and I think I want to go with a couple musk turtles and one fly river turtle.... anyone see any problems with that?

FRTs are prone to test bite bottom dwellers. I had a 5" FRT that killed a nearly 1.5ft AUL. Plus, FRTs come from alkaline waters and many parts of their ranges have some salt. Not the same conditions preferred by rays. Another consideration is the amount of waste produced by turtles. You'd need an elaborate and highly efficient filtration system to maintain the pristine water rays would require.

wellll there goes that IDEA ......... can FRT's and musk turtles go together??? Maybe I will just put them in another pond........... was considering buying a preformed one and putting it up higher.... and having it cascade into the one I am making with the liner...

Musk turtles have quite a carnivorous diet when compared to a lot of North American species. Fish and turtles do not tend to work out.

FRTs get huge. If your contemplating a higher, "cascade" pond, opt for musks.

Best,
Paul

Nearly 2 feet normally I think, but I'm not a turtle expert. Reason I am posting is to tell you that keeping a fire eel in a pond is a very, very bad idea.
