THIS IS FOR ALL THE TALL-TANK MFK'S

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am really liking the LED lights from Marineland. I bought the light pod (it fits their ten gallon set up) for $40 after using one on my 125g. This thing pushes nice crisp light all the way to the bottom of these tall tanks. I used foam tape around the edge so it doesn't reflect out from the surface of the glass lid when you are enjoying the tank in the dark.

So the tank is done, I have three green tiger barbs, four regular tiger barbs, and a syn hybrid in the tank now. I may try to add a bristlenose pleco later if the syn doesn't get too mean.

Here's a daytime pic with no lights on in the tank, it is just the light in the room. Then some pics with the LED light and no other light in the room. The last is the LED light pod on the top of the glass lid, so small yet so much light.

Tank is 26" combined with my unfinished 42" high diy stand. It makes it a total of 68" high! Got to stand on chairs to drop my utility sump in for water changes.

^^^ I love tall stands. I try to make the tops of my tanks right at 6' just to sort of have an even look. My 4' deep tank (360 gallons) is on a 2' high stand and it's a PITA to work on anything inside the stand. My 120 is only 2' deep so that stand is 4' high and I have tons of room to work inside the stand and I went with a deep sump too.
Pic: From the left is my 360 at almost 4' deep then my 450 then a 120 and finally my 180 Aba aba tank

Do you use a ladder to access your tanks?

We made a platform to access the top of our tank. The floor is made of hinged doors so we will be able to access the 3' sump tank below it. The middle railing is removable for easier access to things under the platform. The railing was placed there to keep me from falling off.

8' ceiling over the tank. Equipment room has 14"+ ceiling.

We're either going to have to use this carwash brush or climb in the tank to clean the walls.
