Tiger Datnoid, Thinking of buying this guy what do you think?

Buyer says- This is what is called an Oddball Dat. There is a break in his stripe which is quite uncommon. Is this true that they are uncommon with the broken stripe???? says its about 6 inches long so good size, Also what would you price a 6" Dat for?

He is asking 80.00 which is personaly over my limit of what I would pay. But I am cheap I dont want to imagine how much money you have in your tank with over 30 bass, or your food bill but they sure are nice though I love my bass.

He's pretty, but remember, not everything uncommon is favorable. I wouldn't personally pay extra for a broken stripe.

Ya I am thinking around the 50.00-60.00 ish mark myself, if it was 40.00 I would have it in my tank already LOL, as stated, its uncommon with a defect

To me its a Dat, not worth anything extra for a broken stripe or normal, and I could not see how anyone would charge extra for that, but someone is always out to try to make a VW bug a porsch or the other way around.

I would tell him that it's a defect, and you aren't going to pay more for a defective fish. Tell him you will give him $50. It's 10 more than you want, and a little less than he's asking. If he takes it, good for you. If he doesn't, then you can know you didn't get taken advantage of over a stripe.
I don't necessarily know that it's a defect, per se, but it sounds fancy. It certainly isn't worth more money. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I am to understand that a significant determining factor in the value of Dats, in addition to size, is their color, and the condition of their stripes. If the bands are dark, solid, uniform and unbroken, they are worth much more.

The tricky part is differentiating between Siamese Tiger Fish and Indonesian Tiger Fish. To the untrained eye, they both look the same! The tell-tale sign is the number of stripes on the body. If the body has four black stripes, then it is an Indonesian Tiger. If the body has three black main stripes (discounting the stripes at the eye and tail), then it could be a Siamese Tiger or an Indonesian Tiger. In this case where the body has three black stripes, the differentiation in the marking on the tail. If you look at the thinest part of the tail that joins the tail fins to the bofy, you will find 2 small strips. If this two stripes is the same thickness, it is Indonesian Tiger. If the inside stripe is distinctly larger than the outer one, it is Siamese Tiger.
