Ok so the biowheels on one of my 350's are turning very slow if at all. They look like they might be too heavy cause of the cleanin theyve done! So my ? is do i clean them as i would my filters or do i leave them be.

ya the biowheels are where the necessary bacteria live, they don't actually help filter the water so you shouldn't clean them

as ive always known it

Right. Ya theyre deffinately they driving idea behind the filter type! But ya i cleaned the bearings and the whole filter "box" along with the filters and everythings working fine now. I think its was just not a strong enough water flow to spin them like they used to. However the slightly slower spin was benificial. A little more airtime helps the bacteria "digest" so to speak.

^^Whaaat?^^
The bio wheel is where the bacteria are concentrated so that ammonia can be removed from the water, hence the name "bio filtration".

I think he meant not to worry about cleaning them because they don't actually do any mechanical filtration.

if you do in the future have this issue just shake them in a bucket full of tank water during a water change.. toss the water, slap the wheels back in.... this is why idont LOVE the penguin line.. the emperor line has spray bars that help keep the wheels constantly spinning which os nice
