arowana, peacock bass for sure if your looking for color and aggressiveness

Don't you want a fish from at least the same continent as your ray?

I can vouche for the Argent, beautiful helmet head, mean as a snake, beautiful colors under the light. Contact Cichlid Connection who is a vendor here, name is Gage, he should have some for ya. Mine is a beast and the 500 gallon is his tank

I wouldn't put my tilapia in with my 19" ray for fear of what it could do. Mean ass fish, I wouldn't try it. Nice p.bass is the way to go. Maybe 2 or 3 pick your color, there are some amazing species out there

These four people give sound advice. If you want exotic fish, then I would recommend some of the general area of your ray. As for size mixed with rays (depending on male or female) then I would go with something that can keep up with the rays growth and obtain a larger size of 12". Smaller size, fast swimming cichlid can, and will peck at the eyes, spots and or tail of the ray.

Surprises nobody has mentioned umbee yet. Not sure how they are with rays though because I never kept either.

umbee or festae look great but not sure about them with a ray. what ray are you looking at?

you've never seen the 15+ disk diameter rays eh? they're tough as nails.

I had 1 motoro with a 24" disk, another with a 22" and several approaching between 10-18", even my biggest female ray, they arent as tough as you think, especially with a large fish with exposed teeth on a powerful set of jaws.
