The new fishing show on Animal Planet "River Monsters" just showed a great episode about Vittatus African Tiger Fish. If you are a fan of Tiger Fish and have got the opportunity to watch this episode watch it. It is a good one.

Have any of you that keep Vittatus ATF ever attempted to keep them in a school? This is my hint about this episode is about.

If you cannot find the episode it is called "Pack of Teeth" episode.

I know of a german keeper who keeps them in a school.. they should be, too, IMHO.

I have never seen anyone attempt to keep these fish in a shoal But I am sure after this episode many will try. It was a very exciting episode however it sounded like these fish are usually a solo species and only come together once a year.

there are a few mfkers that have multiple vatf in there aquariums but idk how well it works after they get to a certain size and the aggression builds up........but who knows.

that's odd they did another episode on ATFs. they already had one on GATF.. i wanted an ATF so bad afterwards lol. they should do one on the payaras. they had like a 2 minute scene in one of the piranha episodes on the armatus :irked:

Quite possible that they are solo species that team up into giant school. However it is possibly that smaller schools team up to form super schools.

Extremely neat keep MFK posted.

I've got 4 VATF and one GATF together right now. We'll see how it goes.

Definitely keep MFK posted.

It could be even though the two species are in the same genus they show much different behavior. Such as schooling or being a solitary hunter. Theoretically it could be that schooling GATF is not effective at they're large size. However for VATF that are a smaller size give them a greater advantage over their prey.

An Armatus episode could happen it definitely qualifies as an in the water killer that seems to be what Jeremy Wade is all about. If you cannot wait or another episode does not happen there are many fishing shows about Armatus. A good one is Larry Dahlbergs Hunt For Big Fish.

I really enjoyed this episode, my husband and I were contemplating what the fish would be...I was like it looks like a tigerfish to me. Once he saw it out of the water he's like WoW lets get one! Truly a beautiful monster!!!
