2 males with 1 female

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have 2 male with 1 female. No problems yet but none are mature yet. I asked here and people said it's fine. Better chance at breeding too.

Is this based on your experience?

It is based on common sense and counts for all species so far i know. If rays are an exception then i will take back my opinion. Do female rays love to be the main scource of attraction for male rays? Do they enjoy to be harrassed constantly in a tank and have their fins nipped? If so, then i agree i´m wrong.

I've kept 4 males with 1 female no problem.all breeding size. Just feed them a few times per day it helps for some reason . My female also is bigger than any of the males which helped.but she did still take a beating

It will most likely kill the female.

The stress for the female is enormous.

Just thought I'd ask. Very confident answers you posted, and u hadn't kept rays before???
I know of MANY ray keepers that have more males than females, and there are no problems.

Sometimes they add more males which can trigger and encourage the existing males to mate with the female.

It has nothing to do with rays. It is with evry species that females suffer stress when kept with more males (including humans...). If you consider mass rape a good form of breeding ok, but i would like my animals to be stress free as much as possible. Beside that rays do nip on the females fins while mating. As said above, the females take alot of beating during that. In nature a female ray can escape. What can she do in a tank? stab the rapist to death?
