Hello; I think that aluminum does rust and forms a layer of aluminum oxide(aluminum rust) on the surface. That layer seals oxygen away from the rest of the aluminum and the oxidation cannot proceede. So, as I understand it, aluminum rusts very quickly at the outer surface only and the oxidation stops because oxygen cannot penetrate the layer. I also believe that drink cans are coated on the inside with some sort of plastic to keep the drink from touching the bare metal. I am not sure about the outside of the can.

IIRC, aluminum oxidizes under extreme pH levels in FW, believe it's below 5 and well above 8

These problems if requirements are met would really only be detrimental to SW or inverts. But then again you have some decorations that were meant for other outdoor/household uses that are just as questionable but that doesn't stop most.

yes aluminum is actually very reactive and oxidizes very fast but the Al2O3 is very stable. I wish more people took chemistry in high school/college. Beer cans are probably aquarium safe (besides the sharp lip) but tacky and only a serious ignorant DB would ever consider it.

Aluminum oxide is not rust:duh:

Ever since this app came out I'm not likeing mfk anymore, it's meaner than I thought it was
