Hey i found some red fin pickeral for sale for sale in the US and I wondering if I can bring them over to the border via Buffalo to Ontario. Do i need a permit for native fish?? Any tips and experiences?? How big do they grow and how many can live in a 75 gallon tank for life?? are they super aggresive?? Can 2 of them cohab together with Bichirs of simular size and angelfish??? can they live in tropical temperature like in the high 70s??

thanks

I'm not sure on regs for importation to Canada. But they can be kept in a 75 for life. They will do fine with fish their size.I'm not sure about angels, the pickerel may decide to try for dinner. As for tropical temps. I would not do it for long. At higher temps they seem susceptible to fin rot and are easily stressed at higher temps. They are only aggressive towards anything that may be food. If they think they can eat it they will try.

Gets about 15 inches. Maybe one could be kept in a tank that size, but not a group. They need cold water, somewhere in the 60 s. I don't think you need a permit, but you should try not to let officials see them, if you know what I mean;)

i've seen videos on Youtube where people have kept tropical fish with the pickerals. Also i researched that they can live in the high 70s.

so will the pickerel attack the bichirs?? any experiences with the tankmates? i think it's safer and more appropriate to decrare them in the border. What do i say?

thanks! any canadians in the forum??

There are no regulations against the importation and captive husbandry of the redfin pickerel in Ontario. However, it would be a good idea to keep the receipts in a safe place since the native Canadian redfin populations include areas that are protected from collecting.

so they won't confiscate them if I show the a raciept to prove that they aren't caught from the wild?? so if I don't have one, will they take them since they don't allow people to catch red fins??
