Marineland recalled the stalth pros and is replacing them with the much cheaper visi therms. this is some crap. I could either get 27 bucks back or a visitherm. I dont use glass heaters, so you may see one up for sale soon. Will be ordering a hydor or via aqua titanium here shortly.

Petsmart is not supposed to replace the heater. I disagree with the jagers being the best. I refuse to use a glass heater. the jagers are the best glass heater out there, but Id much rather have a titanium or inline

That was my second choice. I already went to big als bought a via aqua 200 watt heater, 2 litres of de*nitrate, 2 pounds of fish food, a pound of staple flake (if you dont use it start, its an excellent staple flake and cheap too), half pound of hikari cichlid staple mini pellets, and half a pound of sinking shrimp pellets, a filter sock, and last but not least a digital thermometer. All for 75 shipped.

problem is, petsmart doesn't even sell arguably the best brand, the eheim jagers.

at least, here in canada they don't. mostly garbage top fin heaters..

Six months ago I would've agreed with you that the Eheim Jager was the best heater. After having 2 quit a 200 watt and a 150 watt I can't agree. The 200 watt lasted about 6 months and the 150 watt only 3 months. I do still have a 300 watt Jager that's working fine though. It's been controlled by a ranco controller, since I first setup the tank. The others weren't.

I won't run a heater anymore and rely on the cheap internal thermostat to control the temperature. The Hydor theo heaters I used to have were all over the place on temperature. Also on the hydors the setpoint dial was accurate within a 2 degrees when I got them. After using them for 10 months they were all off 7 to 9 degrees.

Now I'm using 3 Jbj true temps. They are great. Although the only downside is the have no out of water safety shutoff. I found this out the hard way, because I forgot to turn one off one day. I am using that jbj controller to control a aqueon pro heater now.

All together I have 3 JBJ controllers. Two of them are controlling the titanium heaters that come with them. The other is controlling an aqueon pro heater. I have 2 ranco controllers. One I'm using with an eheim jager and the other an aqueon pro heater. Lastly I have a reefkeeper elite controlling an aqueon pro heater.

I recommend no matter what heater you use to utilize an external temperature controller.
