How much water do you change every day in your grow out tanks?

Good question

It all depends on the size of the tank and its inhabitants, as well as how much and how often they are fed. I have about 100 1/4 inch red head tapajos fry in a 20 long and I do roughly 50 percent water changes every other day with 3 to 4 feedings per day but the tank also has two hob filters.

I would suggest more frequent changes with fry but as the fish get larger you can decrease how often you perfom water changes so long as you keep your waters parameters in check.

Whatever neccessary to keep the nitrates less than 10ppm for me, usually. If i have to skip a week, then I don't sweat it too bad.

the more water changes you do, in my experience, the happier and healthier your fish will be. my best results happen with 2 50% water changes every day. so about 75% new water daily.
Do you have to do so much? no. will you notice a difference with 50% a day. probably not. will you notice a difference from 50% a week, maybe.
as long as you aren't stressing your fish with different water parameters, new water is better than old.

TWO 50% water changes a day? Wow! What size tank is that on?
My grow out tank is a 40 breeder and I do 50-75% a week.

Low nitrates + healthy diet + decent amount of gallons/fish = the healthiest fish possible imo given that there isnt aggression between tank mates which would cause stress!

this .. which is usually 50% every other day or so... and my key is to feed often, 3+ or more. good water and good food...ime tank size doesnt matter much within' reason.
