when I first put mine into the tank, it went straight for the bottom of the tank, but after a few days it swims regularly on top and middle with arowanas and paroons that are twice their length!

Ease them into the lights, by taking the light farther from the top of the aqaurium and lowering it down slowly over a week or so; like you would do with these new extremely bright reef lights. I would say add plants too, so they can have a place to kinda get away and hide.
hi guys.. its just 2 florida gars about 10 inches and 8 inches. with driftwood and gravel substrate. they both recently have been converted to eating freeze dried krill.. in the process of converting to pellets.
i guess i'll leave the lights on for more hours to get them used to it.. usually they dart to the bottom when i turn on the lights.. i could probably condition them to think that turning on of lights= to feeding time
