Are there falconers among us?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
No no, I don't consider this too much of a derail - maybe we can even make some sort of "General birds of prey thread" :D
Still hoping to find a falconer here, I have so many questions :p
But I swear, and all of you are my witnesses, one day I will be able to practicate this magnificent hobby!
Thanks guys for all the interest so far, really appreciate it.

They really are a thing of beauty, only other time I saw one up close was when one landed on my AC and nearly pulled it out of my window. I thought someone was trying to rip it out of my window when I went to check there was a Hawk slipping and sliding on it trying to keep his balance, those talons weren't helping him at that moment.
:D :D :D

I have a friend from high school that keeps a couple Red-Tailed Hawks. I've seen his birds while he handled them, but never seen them actually hunting. The guy has been doing it for about twenty years now, it's pretty cool...

That's cool Dan,maybe you could get a few pictures of his birds?

I'll have to get out to his place sometime. It has been a few years, but I ran into him at the hardware store a couple months ago and he said he is still falconing, but he got rid of his Cougar (Puma, Mountain Lion, Catamount - not old hotty).

Wow a cougar, what happened with that?

My school once got an organization together and i was the lucky one to get the picture with the bald eagle flapping it's wings over my head.

The trick is finding a mentor and then putting in your time with them. I've looked into it before, but I never had any luck.

Yeah,I know that mentoring under an established and experienced falconer is one of the state's requirements.I also looked into it before.
