Anyone use crushed coral to raise the PH?

My ph is pretty low, 6.2 for a flower horn and a JD. How would adding crushed coral work? Mix it in the gravel? Mesh bag? And how much to put in a 40 gallon tank? Thanks guys

I use it to maintain my tank's PH. It works very well. You can mix it in the gravel or in the sump. Too much will bring the PH too high. I use about 2 pound for 100 gallons of water. It will dissolve over time and you will have to add more(in maybe 2 years?). I do not need to add buffer anymore.

Is that's what comes out your tap? That's low. You can put crush coral anywhere: filter, gravel, sump. If your going to buff your tank water you better buff the new water thats going in the tank too. Otherwise your ph will be all over the place.

Well I'm trying to avoid using buffers, I have the Malawi / Victoria buffer by seachem at the moment but after hearing of problems people have with it not being stable it's making me thing crushed coral will be the way to go

For 40 gallons you would need between half cup to whole.cup of curshed coral. I used like 2 - 2.5 cups in my 150 wich brought ph from 6-7.All you need is a media bag put the coral in it rinse it puy it in filter or tank. Check ph everyday till it levels off. Then you may have to add or subtract coral till you get right ph. Its mostly trial and error.

I had the same problem..I didn't want my ph to high, as my fish prefer a lower ph..but 6-6.2 was tooo low for my liking lol....crushed coral has worked wonders!!Media bag,into the fx5 and it's been stable ever since
