Hello,
I am new to the forum and wanted to get some advice. I currently have a 55 gallon heavily planted tank with 1 Jack Dempsey and 1 Pike Cichlid. I have them on a diet of tropical fish flakes mixed in with meaty pellets and the occasional rosy feader fish. Through what I've read and what i've been told the Pike Cichlid (currenty 3 inches) should get around 6 inches and the Jack (currently 4 inches) should max out between 8-10 inches.
I visited my LFS today and saw a Hujeta Gar. I found this fish fascinating and thought it would fit well with the diet of my current stock and the fact that it hangs in the upper portion of the tank (the pike hides out under the rocks and the dempsey has his own cave). Is it foolish to think that this could work? I wanted to get some advice before I pull the trigger. I understand the the fish gets between 10-12 inches. Do you think a 55 gallon would work or am I pushing things?
I also wouldn't mind adding either a schooling fish (tiger barbs etc) and or a cleanup crew (pleco or some sort of catfish). Any advice is greatly appreciated. I want to make sure I do this right the first time. I have 120 gallons of filtration for the 55 if that helps any. All comments both positive/negative are welcome. Thanks for your help!
