I would stock it with a freshwater puffer, you can never go wrong with puffers imho...

gulper catfish

I'm sure I'll get heat for recommending it, but my tilapia butti has spent his whole life(with me) in a 55g. Not only e most personable fish I've owned, but maybe the most personable I've seen in person. I guess they can grow to maybe 14" which wouldn't be ideal, but mine is 11" and definitely not growing.

Unless you accidentally suck him in and eats him while changing water...then you'll die of poisoning :D

I second this if you don't want another other fish in there...other wise a medium sized cichlid and some dithers make a good looking aquarium. Not that much into a one fish tank.

Amphilophus Lyonsi..... /Thread

It's Amphilophus, so it'll be super personable. And they don't get as big as a Midas/Devil or Trimac, so they will actually fit in a 55 gallon for life. Rapps and Gage have them available up to 4-5"ers. Snag one up and call it a day. They're like miniature Trimacs with even more color. And as an added bonus, they are almost extinct in the wild. So you're going to have a super rare fish that nobody else has, and you're doing the world a service if you decide to breed some of these amazing fish.

I would think they'll be ok in an 8 footer with JD, GT's, etc...

They're less agro than their other amphilophus cousins.

I'd do it for sure if you're looking for more stock, and you have other less aggressive cichlids.

I just wouldn't do breeding pairs if you're trying to do a community tank. Other than that, they should fit right in.
