I really can see why people doubt that you can care for the fish at full size, it's because most people don't. Personally I like to believe the OP and see his fish grow and see that he/she can care for it. And if it turns out that the OP can't care for the fish, he just learned a lesson.

Good comment here about young kids being on this forum. I'm only 17 myself, but for me I'm more in for taking advises, not giving them. And if I do give them, I make sure I am 100% correct. It's really annoying when people with no experience, regardless of age, are giving advises.

A pond would most likely be best for your arapaima. The tank will cost the most initially but serves the same purpose as a pond but you can see in the sides. With the pond you will be able to create a larger footprint with less cost. Height isn't too much of a big deal, 4 and a half feet would be good. That 10' x 5' x 4' tank isn't going to serve him for life and will really burn a hole in your pocket! Go with a pond made out of cinder blocks and a liner, indoors if you can so that it will be a lot easier to maintain and heat. Keep us updated on him! Videos are great too!
 
My guess his fish will die in 6 months from not having the ability to read. Pima is a jumper so since you can't read just play the song Kris Cross "jump"

Oh,you meant the fish's owner can't read,I get it now...That's not what you have in your post.Kriss Kross, now that's old school but why suggest that song?..Maybe the thread starter is more into Van Halen,they also have a song called Jump.

I just got a 4" Arapaima Giga's from my lfs, I was wondering what yours is feeding on ? I'm not a fan of using feeder fish... Prawns, White bait maybe a better option ?
