She was just sitting there alone in the tank, labeled only as 'dwarf pike' ... how could I not pick her up?

She was something new for me with those white bands, and appearently I have no control when it comes to picking up new pikes. The neon school already lost the three smallest members over night.

I 'think' she might be an sp. Orinico dwarf, but I won't know for sure until her dorsal pattern fills in a bit more. The store I got her from ordered from WS, and orinico dwarves are one of the 3 species they sell as Cr. wallacii ... and the only one with white in the dorsal. If the red starts to fill in more and I get a band of each color, I'll know she's an Orinico.

Sometimes buying these guys is like buying an assorted apisto group ... you don't know what you will actually end up with until the put on some size and color up.

I hope that's what she ends up being. They are beautiful dwarves and it would be a new dwarf for me to boot.

I would have done the same thing. Dwarf pikes are easy to find room for. Maybe it's a good thing my local stores don't regularly stock cool stuff. lol.
