Bothering the sellers

I think I know what OP is saying.

Person A posts a picture of their fish and says, "Look at my fish I received from Vendor Z!" A ton of people chime in and comment on whether or not it's what the vendor sold it as, or if the collection location is accurate, or question the claims that it's wild vs. tank-bred, etc. This often leads to Person A growing concerned that they've received something other than what they thought they purchased, and leads them to contact Vendor Z for clarification, usually at the suggestion of the people commenting on the fish. Then Vendor Z has to come in and defend the fish, and explain to everyone where it came from, what it is, etc.

This has happened a few times in recent threads. People have called out Dan for his claims of selling wild festae and Jeff Rapps for his trimacs.

OP is asking if it's a common practice to bother sellers about this stuff, and expect them to get involved in every thread in which one of their fish is called into question. I guess there are a few ways of looking at it. First, if they're a vendor here, I can see why people think they're keeping the seller honest and holding their feet to the fire by calling out things that appear to be incorrect or inaccurate. However, I also firmly believe that if a buyer has an issue, it's best that they try to work it out with a vendor off the forum first.

I thinks what the person is getting at is forums and the interweb has ruined the hobby.

Instead of letting the LFS sell us what they want to sell us we now have the resources to share photos and information about specifics.

So since we have this new found knowledge we have been poisoned at the same time cause now we won't accept wrong for wrong.

Now instead of the LFS telling us an oscar with weird long tattered fins is some super exotic species we now can find out that they are just line bred for the finnage and probably beat the hell up.

and we can no share photos with the whole world or sit all together and point and laugh at those that got swindled instead of only the household getting to see the fish and being able to tell our friends that know as little as we did that the fish is indeed some super rare amazon flesh eating fish that Steve Erwin caught it.

IMO... if the vendor sells the fish as "Common Fish A" then so be it... now if the vendor sells it as "Fish A, caught straight from this specific lake and exported from this specific location and will only show this color and breed this way" then I would say that I would expect it as advertised.

Also to be said, if the fish were "imported" it would be nice to know the background.

the way i see it and i have had this happen on here too before i went big with my tanks is alot of times you will post a pic of something you bought , got, caught whatever and your trying to figure out if you got something "the hobby" deems as worthy or ballin , and in most of my cases i have bought something at the time i really liked, liked enough to purchase anyways, and when you post people crap all over it and it makes you question what your doing or what you have bought.....and then you start thinking well jeez did i get ripped off or why the h did they tell me it was this or that....

i have finally figured out the cure for this, If i liked it enough to buy it , and i post about it or put up a pic , i stopped asking what people thought because it does no good, there is always gonna be a hater or someone to poo poo on your stuff, there is always a better example of what you have bought , there is always someone out there with more money and more ballin gear, so the easiest way to deal is if you like what you have got ...... throw up a middle finger to the poo poo party and just remember why you bought it, built it , etc
because you liked it
I have a different view on the hobby im not a "purist", or some psycho about where it comes from , f1 or f1000000000 doesnt mean ish if your happy be happy...if it looks good and its healthy , and its in a good environment.. im happy, you all should be less concerned what others think and be more focal on whether it makes you happy...

life is too short to get your undies in a bunch over what others think i guess is to summarize where i was going with that...

no idea what OP is saying.

but i hate how people act all interested in the stuff im selling. ask this and that, waste my time. saying they will pick up the fish. give them my address then they never show up. text/pm them. their not even man enough to answer ur text saying they dont want it anymore and leaves u hanging.

This has nothing to do with the op's question but nikond70s why is your uaer name in pink?
