hey guys i just picked up a small lima shovelnose around 4 inches it is currently in a growing on tank. what food is best to get it to have a nice quick growth rate?

Variation!
Market prawn, bloodworms, mysis, artemia, pellets, flakes, cut up fish.. varied diet is best.

Thanks for posting this thread - I'm new to the forum and was going to post the same thing! I've got a 125g and have just added a 4" Lima Shovelnose to the mix this morning. I can't wait for him to grow but not too quickly as I want my smaller Malawi's to outgrow his mouth first!

Many report quick success with their Sorubim lima/elongatus taking pellets. Others, including me, had problems making them take pellets. I always had my 7 in a community tank, so I could not selectively starve them. They always rejected any of the half-a-dozen kinds of pellets offered and held out for anything meaty - fish, shrimp, crab, mussel, etc. On the other hand, meaty foods provide for the fastest growth. If you have a true lima, it will grow to 2 feet. Elongatus - only 1 foot. Very hard to tell apart (I would not try).
