I think there's really something to be said about fishing for bream... i just took 14 superworms leftover from yesterday to lake johnson and caught 17 bream in 45 minutes, made me feel like a kid again and it was all around just not stressful at all... even when they steal the bait its just like ahhh darn ill get the next one. i may have to start doing this again on a more consistent basis. caught 14 bluegill 2 faded out redbreasts and 1 crappie. One of the bluegill was about hand/palm sized and I kept him for my tanks, still lookin for a nice big colored red breast and pumpkinseed :)

Hit the beach at dawn this morning. Forecast was a decent SE wind which is usually perfect for fishing. I got to the beach and what wind that was blowing was blowing out of the North. Rats.

Oh well, the Gulf was like glass and crystal clear. It was too beautiful NOT to fish.

I knew with the North wind the bait and therefor gamefish would be blown further offshore. I peddled out about three miles with not a bite. I see a good size group of birds so I check my rigs before I make the peddle towards them. As soon as I get out the second rig and as Im putting it in the rod holder behind me, the rod is nearly yanked out of my hand. I set the hook and wait until the yak turns towards the fish to begin my first Nantucket sleigh ride for the day. Once the yak is now being dragged by the fish put the rod in the front rod holder so I can reel in my second line.

After a good fight and and initial run of a solid hundred yards I land a pretty decent king around fifteen pounds.

Ok, now back to chasing down the birds. For the guys that dont fish offshore, seeing diving birds usually indicates there are bigger fish under them. The bigger fish push the bait fish to the surface so the birds can try and catch them and the birds push the baitfish back down so the bigger fish and get them.

Anywho not long after I arrive to the spot on of my rods goes off. Its a solid but slower run then a king so Im thinking mahi. Im heading west so the rising sun is right behind so I can barely see anything. I fight the fish for a few seconds and I can feel that its making a run for the surface to jump, oh yeah mahi...or so I thought. The fish breaches and immediately spins in circles braking my line. It was about a six foot spinner shark. Spinners are fun to catch though because they jump like crazy when hooked.

The fish that were under the birds happened to just be bonita so I head back in with out another bite. The Gulf was still flat calm so I call it a day early knowing that under those conditions the bite can be really slow.

I love my new Hobie Outback. I can sit back and troll handsfree and cover tons of water. I went well over three miles out today and barely broke a sweat.

nice sized king bud, id have been casting to the bonita if i had brought a light setup!

Are US Bream the same species as European Bream?
